HIST 1700, American Civilization (AI)

Credit Hours: 3.0

Course Description: This course covers American History from the Pre-Columbian period to the present. It provides a thorough examination of the major social, political, and economic events, issues, and themes of the period.

Signature Assignment

Throughout the HIST 1700 course, I was asked to write multiple critical analyses and writing assignments in relation to the topics discussed sequentially in the lectures. The two pieces of my best works that I picked are one critical analysis called "Amistad" and one writing assignment called "Economic Revolution and Sectional Strife." The critical analysis is about a slave ship called Amistad that was used to carry slaves from Cuba to the United States. The writing assignment is mainly about significant events and outcomes of the Civil War and Reconstruction.

Reflection

I have learned a great deal of information of the Amistad ship and the court case for the critical analysis and the events and outcomes of the Civil War and Reconstruction for the writing assignment. I have developed analytical skills and research techniques when doing these two assignments. I also learned that your opinion matters, so others can hear your point of view. It was a little difficult at first when doing these assignments since I haven't done a history course in a while. Even though this course is not pertinent to my major, but I have learned a significant amount of information in United States history, and I found the course to be quite interesting and engaging.
