Course Description: A survey of music in the United States exploring the diverse musical traditions of this country. Students will apply listening and analytical skills to understand current topics of diversity in American culture as they relate to music.

Reflection

In this class, I learned a significant amount of information on how music in the United States explores its musical traditions. This includes: folk and ethnic music, popular sacred music, popular secular music, jazz music, and classical music. I learned how music relates to society, U.S. historical events, and everyday life.  

I have learned that this class demonstrates my learning in all the SLCC learning goals. I had the opportunity to apply listening and analytical skills to understand current topics of diverse American cultures and relating it to music. This class also gave me the opportunity to use my critical thinking skills and make connections across certain topics regarding on U.S. music and culture.
