BIOL 1615, College Biology I Lab (BS)
Credit Hours: 0.0
Course Description: Lab component of BIOL 1610 College Biology I.
Signature Assignment
Throughout the BIOL 1615 course, I was asked to write a summary of a scientific article of my choosing. We did consecutive steps leading to the summary of the article including: searching an article topic and writing an outline of the article topic chosen. The topic I chose is on programmed cell death (PCD), and the article is called "IN VIVO STUDY OF DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAMMED CELL DEATH USING THE LACE PLANT (APONOGETON MADAGASCARIENSIS; APONOGETONACEAE) LEAF MODEL SYSTEM." It was an interesting topic, and I chose this assignment for my ePortfolio because I learned how PCD not only affects animals but also plants.

Reflection
I learned a significant amount of information of how programmed cell death (PCD) can affect lace plants particularly its chloroplasts. The question was whether the chloroplasts of the plants will disappear before the plant cells die. After the experiment has been tested, there is still a controversy as to whether chloroplasts are involved in triggering PCD. According to the results, we don't know much if that is the case, but more tests need to done.
I came to know it was a little difficult reading this article at first because of the big vocabulary used in it. Since I have been taking a medical terminology class, it has helped me to understand a little bit more what the article is talking about. I know that this kind of exercise will help me in the long run in analyzing and summarizing later articles that I may come across with through interest or future assignments.
